Cute/Sad/Amusing Story...

Once upon a time.
A young man lost his precious loved one in a war.

The young man was all alone.

"If I had been stronger,
I would have been able to protect the person who was important to me..."

The young man knocked on the door to the laboratory.

And as he wished, he became a cyborg.

The young man who had become a cyborg was given the name "Proto",
and in exchange for his precious memories, was given strength.

Proto fought on many battlefields.

Having gained strength,
his loneliness should have disappeared.

"But it is not so..."

The memories of his precious loved one
that should have been lost
remained without fading.

The more he fought, the more his sadness grew.
His precious loved one would not return.

"I cannot add to this loneliness and sadness"

Proto disappeared from the battlefield.
No matter how much they searched, no one could find him.

Then, it was terrible.
There was a commotion at the laboratory.
Proto was gone,
and the bad people were in an uproar.

"This is a disaster! Proto was an important cyborg.
If it were found out that he was gone, we'd never be able to research here again!!"

Then the bad people wondered if there was anyone who could replace Proto.

At the bad people's laboratory,
there was an assistant named Asakura.

Asakura, who was Japanese, was all alone in a foreign country.

In all of that, the only one who talked to him
was a girl named Maria.

Asakura loved Maria.

Maria had a friend named Ray who she loved.
Ray also loved Maria.

It was the day Ray was accepted into the army.
Asakura and Maria went to see him off.

Maria gazed at Ray with a sad face.

Asakura thought (I wish he'd never come back...)

At the laboratory, Asakura was shocked to see a photo of Proto.
Proto and Ray were spitting images of each other.

(If Ray vanishes now, Maria will be mine...)

Possessed with an evil heart, Asakura thought of substituting Ray for Proto.

Asakura called Ray to the laboratory.
Not knowing anything,
Ray hurried to meet him.

When Ray entered Asakura's room,
many soldiers surrounded him.

In shock, Ray cried out
"Asakura!"
over and over again.
But Asakura did not reply.

At last, Ray was remodelled into the cyborg "Zero".

So that Proto's disappearance could not be found out,
the bad people erased Ray's memories and heart,
and put Proto's memories into Zero.

Zero became a powerful weapon.
He became the captain of a brigade of cyborgs and fought in many battles.

The more that Zero fought, the more he felt a sense of emptiness.

"What is this emptiness?"

His memories of his beloved Maria
that should have been erased were revived.

Little by little,
Zero remembered the time when he was Ray.

Inside his regained memories,
Zero had a feeling that there was a second self inside him.

This was Proto's heart.

Inside his memories that came back piece by piece,
Zero was troubled.

"The young man...Proto, Ray, Zero..."

"Who...am I?"

At length, Zero remembered everything.
About Asakura, who had been his friend, and how,
because of him,
he had been turned into a cyborg.

When he turned around, there were many cyborgs like Zero.

All of them had regained their heart and precious memories.

"Let's defeat the bad people and return to our hometowns"

The cyborgs followed Zero back to the laboratory to overthrow the bad people.

The cyborgs fought.
Zero, too, fought with all his strength.
But they could not defeat the bad people.

Zero and the many cyborgs were smashed to pieces and destroyed.

After a short time,
Asakura, who had been his friend, came to him.

When he saw Zero, unable to move,
he regretted what he had done from the bottom of his heart.

He apologised to Zero's shattered body.

With many, many tears streaming down his face, he apologised.

"It's enough..."

Zero forgave Asakura.

Zero looked up to the sky.
As he did, an angel fluttered down.
The angel looked just like Maria.

Tears overflowed from his mechanical eyes.

At last, Zero became still.

"For war to vanish from this world..."

He whispered these last words inside his heart,
and fell into a peaceful sleep.
